Areas of Focus

This year the NGO focus was Human Trafficking and Partnership to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal #17. We partnered with the Third Episcopal District NGO Liaison, Stacy Williams under the leadership of Bishop Frank M. Reid, III and Supervisor Marlaa' H. Reid.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Achievements

We hosted a virtual Human Trafficking Awareness Day on June 26, 2021. Our theme was MISSING DREAMS. The presenter was the dynamic Dr. Stephany Powell a Director of Law Enforcement Training and Survivors Services. Dr. Powell presented an outstanding and informative workshop. She is the author of My Choice, My Body, My Rules, a Workbook in Prevention; and a related book, which is a Facilitator Guide.

We also heard the voice of our young people through a poem written by Raven Shaw, California Conference Young People's Department President called Missing Dreams. Sandra Nelson, Pacific Northwest WMS Conference NGO Representative presented A Call to Action Plan. She is asking that we support legislation regarding Human Trafficking in each of our Congressional Districts. We care and want our voices to be heard about our children, teenagers, and adults, who are being stolen from their Dreams. We encourage everyone to make telephone calls, send letters, emails, text messages, and also support Human Trafficking Bills. It is our prayer that you go into your community and Get in Good Trouble!

Also this year, we focused on Zero Hunger, Sustainable Development Goal 2. It saddens our hearts to see people experiencing hunger. One Society, the Mary F. Handy WMS of First AMEC, Kansas City, Midwest Conference delivered food to COVID-19 vaccination stations, provided food baskets to single mothers, and gave over 3,250 lunches in their community.

 Special Recognition

We appreciated Bishop Clement W. Fugh, and Supervisor Alexia B. Fugh for their support. Thank you to President Deborah J. Rabb, Conference Presidents, Conference NGO Representatives, and my Missionary sisters for all of your hard work.
