In partnership with UN’s 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals, the 2nd District NGO focused on:
1. Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking: Human Trafficking in minor communities is on the rise. The use of force of sexual labor. 300,000 Black women and girls have gone missing in 2020.
2. Food Security: Food deserts are popping up in our neighborhoods. 40% of Prince George’s County neighborhoods are considered food deserts.
3. Fistula: Fistula continues to be an issue. At least 2 million women live with obstetric fistula, in the developing world.
Key Issues
1. Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking: The SED as a collective body continues to meet the
needs of the vulnerable in our communities, human trafficking victims, and co- survivors.
2. Fistula: Fistula continues to be an issue. At least 2 million women live with obstetric fistula, in
the developing world.
3. Food Security: Food deserts are popping up in our neighborhoods. 40% of Prince George's
County neighborhoods are considered food deserts.
Call To Action
1. Equip, empower and educate missionaries, clergy and the lay of the
prevalence of human trafficking in the Second Episcopal District.
2. Advocate and engage societies in the Obstetric Fistula campaign
spearheaded by Janice M. Brown WMS Fistula Commissioner to make a
difference in the lives of women living with Obstetric Fistula.
3. Organize food drives, food banks, care packages, distribution to
seniors and the sick and shut-in, holiday feedings.
Advocacy Accomplishments
Ministries and organizations in the 2nd Episcopal District were contacted to mobilize their members to become actively involved with the SED WMS Human Trafficking Prevention, Awareness, and Intervention Ministry. They answered the call!
Supported the Freedom from Child Sex Trafficking campaign with $625 in gift cards for survivors.
Recognized Human Trafficking Awareness Month across the district where Missionaries wore blue in solidary for National Wear Blue Day raising awareness of Human Trafficking.
As the SED Liaison, it was important to bring the district together in advocacy with 3 initiatives:
1. Hosted the inaugural 2nd Episcopal District WMS Human Trafficking Training with speakers from a local agency, community-based consultant and Baltimore City Police. The training was very informational, the speakers unpacked cultural influences and who the buyers are.
2. Launched The Red Sand Project across the 2nd Episcopal District. The pouring of the Red Sand is symbolic. Each grain of sand represents one of the lives of the 40 million children who have fallen through the cracks of sexual exploitation, forced marriage, and social, economic crises.
3. Launched 2"J Tuesdays. Every 2,d Tuesday of the month, the designated missionary will share a global prayer, with the SED which is distributed district-wide.
Thank you to the 2nd Episcopal Team: District President, Conference Presidents and Area Chairs. To God be the glory, great things He hath done.
Respectfully submitted, CeCe Cole, WMS NGO Liaison for the 2nd Episcopal District.
