Plan of Action & Advocacy

 

 The 4th District WMS goal is to serve others humbly in love through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. “Truly I tell you whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did to me”  Mathew 2:35


Here is our witness: 

 

Goals: 

SDG 1 Zero Poverty Supporting Brothers Keepers Men’s Shelter, Tornado victims, Angel Tree (children with parents in prison, Build Habitat for Humanity, Dayspring Center for Homeless Centre, Just Neighbors Homeless Centre, Refugees & families in Distress, Worked with World Medical Relief Organization to sort medication for distribution. 

SDG 2 Zero Hunger Feeding ministries and Open Pantries for people to shop for items, prepared meals for residents at 

homeless shelters, Food donations to Hope Southern Indiana, Food giveaways 

SDG 3 Good Health Hearth Health Information and resources, Wear Read for Heart Health, Conduct month long walking aerobic exercise classes, Workshops on Mental Health and Stress management, Onsite health screenings / Health fairs with nursing support, WMS line dancing on zoom, Onsite mobile Mammography unit provided women in community screening, Breast Cancer Walks and Fundraiser, Pink Sunday recognitions of Breast Cancer Awareness, Free onsite vaccinations for children and adults

SDG 5 Gender Equality Hope Center for victims of Domestic Violence, Diane Place Women’s Shelter, Stepping Stone Women’s 

Shelter, Maple Leaf Learning Centre, Attention to voter Engagement and Key discussions. 

SDG 6 Clean Water WMS support partnership to continue to make a difference. Partnering with St. Marks UMC to supply 

bottled water to homeless population 

SDG 10 Inequalities Supported domestic violence awareness, provided resources, gift cards, toiletries and underwear to shelters, Letter writing campaign to Congress for equity in feeding programs funding – Bread for the World, Attended local school board meetings and encouraged more support for students, Supported voter registration.

SDG 16 Strong Institutions Supported Wear Orange Weekend – Moms Demand Action against Gun Violence, Blue Heart Campaign raised funds for Hope Centre helps women who are trafficked, Fitsula Campaign support, and Residential School support of family HONN – Helping our Northern Neighbours.

Continued Action Plan:

Increase knowledge and awareness of all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, through awareness, workshops, seminars, writing campaigns and action.


HRT Human Trafficking Certification completion – Over 100 persons certified.
